Mulch Installation
Mulch is installed in landscape beds for two main reasons, moisture retention and for aesthetic reasons. Properly installed mulch will form a basin around the base of tree, to funnel moisture from rains to the root system. The mulch should be kept from direct contact with the base of the tree to prevent the tree from developing roots above the soil in the mulch. Mulch that is placed too thick around trees causes the tree to grow roots from the trunk into the mulch later causing stress to the tree during drought conditions. Also mulch that is placed against the trunk of the tree provides a haven for harmful insects and diseases to attack the tree.
Mulch should not be installed in landscape beds over 4-6 inches thick.
We offer two kinds of shredded bark mulch for installation, Dark Brown Hardwood, and Midnight/Black Mulch.
